THIRUTHOOR SHIVA TEMPLE
The Thiruthoor Shiva temple is a revered Hindu temple which is located in the Chiyyaram village of the Thrissur city of Kerala.
The temple is primarily dedicated to the lord Shiva and also worships lord Ganesha, goddess Parvati, lord Murugan, and other serpant deities as the subdeities.
The presence of these deities brings more spirituality to the temple and attracts more devotees to the temple.
Major Festivals / Events
The festival which is known as Thiruvathira is considered the most celebrated festival of the temple and it is mainly dedicated to the lord Shiva.
The devotees, especially women perform fasting and conduct Thiruvathirakali performance in the temple premises.
It is believed that this day is the remembrance of the day when the goddess Parvati met lord shiva after her penance.
Mahashivaratri also has great importance in the Thiruthoor temple history. Devotees from long distances visit the temple and perform fasting and prayers throughout the night.
The temple also has various offerings which bring blessings and prosperity to the lives of the devotees.
it is believed that the greatest offering is Annadanam (a specific offering that provides food for the devotees and needy).
