Punkunnam Shiva Temple is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to the lord Shiva. The temple is situated on the Punkunnam town in the Thrissur city of Kerala.
Goddess Parvathy, lord Ganapathi, lord ayyappan, lord parthasarathy, lord krishna and serpant deities are also worshipped here.
As per the records the Punkunnam Shiva temple is considered as one among the 108 siva temple.
It is believed that the temple is around 1000 years old and the temple is constructed based on the pure Kerala style traditional architecture. At present, the temple is under the control of the Cochin Devaswom board.
The Punkunnam Mahadeva temple has a wide range of offerings which includes various types of poojas such as Mrithyunjaya pooja, Sarpa Bali, Ganapathi homam, Ayilyam pooja, Pradosham, etc.

Shivarathri
Mahashivaratri is considered the major festival that is celebrated in Punkunnam Shiva temple. It is a remembrance of the night in which the lord shiva performed his Thandava. On this day devotees perform fasting and night-long prayers for seeking blessings from the lord shiva.
