SREE PARAMEKKAVU BHAGAVATHI TEMPLE
Sree Paramekkavu Bhagavathi temple is one of the most prominent and largest Bhagavathy temples in Kerala. It is located in Thrissur and is mainly dedicated to the goddess Bhagavathy (mother goddess).
The original idol of the goddess is a wooden sculpture (daru silpa), and after some more years, due to the wear and tear of the old one, it was replaced with another idol.
The temple is famous for its participation in the Thrissur pooram which is called the festival of festivals. The Sakthan Thamburan, a powerful ruler was initiated for the Thrissur Pooram during the seventies, and he made the temples of Thrissur into two groups, the Paramekkavu side and the Thiruvambadi side.
The Paramekkavu temple has a wide range of offering cultures. It includes the pongala, thulabharam, chuttuvilikku, neyyvilakku, etc. The devotees perform these rituals and offerings to seek blessings from their goddess.
