AVANANGATTIL KALARI VISHNUMAYA TEMPLE
Avanangattil Kalari Vishnumaya temple is a unique and revered Hindu temple in the Peringottukara village of the Thrissur district of Kerala. The temple is primarily dedicated to the lord vishnumaya which is also known as chathan.
This Vishnumaya Chathan is considered the supreme deity or head of the all Vishnumaya temple of Kerala. The idol of the lord Vishnumaya is depicted in the form of a riding buffalo and holding a wand and a pot.
The temple also houses lord Ayyappa, Serpant deities, goddess Bhadrakali, and other 390 genres of Chatham as the sub-deities of the temple.
Major Festivals / Events
The temple has a unique festival culture, it includes the celebration of Vallattu Mahotsavam and Kumbha Bharani. The Vallattu Mahotsavam is considered the most celebrated festival of this temple.
Vallattu, a Ritual dance performance performed by the priests is the key highlight of this Vallattu Mahotsavam festival.
Kumbhabharani is the other unique festival of this Avanangattil temple. Usually, it is celebrated in the month of Kumbham ( February - March ) and it is dedicated to the lord Vishnumaya.
During this Kumbha Bharani day, the devotees from far away gather and perform rituals and offerings to seek blessings from the lord Vishnumaya.
The temple also involves various kinds of offerings which include Guruthi Pooja, Annadanam, Archana, etc.
The temple is easily accessible to the devotees and direct buses are available to the Perinmgottukara from the major cities . the nearest railway station is Thrissur railway station.
